Fire Up Your Employees and Smoke Your Competition!
On July 26, 2009 in Thought for the Day
The formula for great employee performance has changed – today, for employees to be effective at driving results and connecting with customers, they must be Fired Up! Fired up! employees are good at what they do and love doing it. They provide greater effort, connect more effectively with customers, and think more dynamically. Employees who are not fired up (Gallup states this at about 65% of employees) do “just enough” – and no company can survive with the “just enough” type of employee.
The process to Fire Up! an employee starts with the manager. Today, it is the manager’s role to hire the right employee, activate his/her passion for performance and stay in constant contact through coaching, mentoring and educating. Today’s intellectual workers need an engage-and-inspire manager – one who know how to connect to employees, and one who knows how to connect employees to performance – not a command-and-control manager. These managers chase the great employees away. So, what type of manager are you?
