Engaged employees perform better – Monday
On June 29, 2009 in Thought for the Day
Get the facts. Engaged (excited, inspired, committed) employees out perform all others. They may start that way – remember what it feels to be a new employee, excited to make a difference and to feel valued – but many don’t remain engaged. This has a lot to do with both the workplace and the manager’s managing style.
I am in New Orleans early this week teaching at the SHRM conference – and my topic is “The Performance Power of Feedback – or phrased another way, the Engagement power of feedback. Communication is critical to employee engagement. When employees see the interest of their manager through the manager’s coaching, education and conversation, they feel more valued, important and connected. These are key to employee engagement. This is part of an effective management style.
So this week, I offer a daily question to start a more proactive dialog and feedback process between managers and employees. You now have an introduction to find out how to engage your employee- the rest is up to you.
Engagement question 1: What do you think you excel at in your job and do you get to do it often enough?
